I think of the buzzer beating shot, the game ending field goal, the throw to home plate, the golden goal… the “yes we have a CO2 carrier!” I’ll explain. Tuesday August 3 rd Gary called asking “what CO2 haulers we knew,” a moment or two of deathly silence passed… (I “didn’t even know we purchased CO2! Much less who hauled it.) The current vendor had reduced our weekly supply by 70% and my friends… we were on the hunt!”

We were quick to learn CO2 carriage is a very tight niche market with zero capacity for on boarding new customer volume. The dire situation continued to develop into a first rate commercial for Alka Seltzer when I recalled having an off the cuff conversation a year or two earlier. I immediately dialed the carrier and desperately asked if they hauled CO2 to which he replied “I don’t know why we couldn’t, we haul Butane! Talk about a “plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is” moment! Saturday our carrier arrived in Morris, Minnesota where two newly manufactured CO2 trailers were sitting retrofitted to Bama Specs, inspected, and Federally certified for use. No later than Sunday evening the carrier with a new trailer in tow arrived in Muscatine, Iowa at our vendor’s gate awaiting the inaugural loading. During the interim the driver tagged, placarded, and applied decals to the trailers.

On Wednesday, August 11th, after using both the carrier’s facility and technicians to address new equipment gremlins, the first of several Bama Managed CO2 orders had successfully delivered and the driver was in-route to Freeport, Texas for the next loading. A mere total of 8 days had elapsed. It is my honor bestowing this year’s ‘Save the Game Award’ to “Merrell Transport.”
